Janice Small:Location, Location, Location – the widening education gap in Batley and Spen shows where you live determines your chances
Janice Small reveals the true extent of Labour’s failed education legacy following a report prepared by the union of college lecturers (UCU), it shows two tables by constituency ranked according to the percentage of residents with: (a) the fewest people having no qualifications; and (b) the highest number of people with college/university degrees.
The Batley and Spen constituency ranks 600 th out of 628 constituencies, leaving it firmly in the bottom quartile of people who fail to get a university degree and with the fewest people having no qualifications. Only 15.36% of people have at least a degree of NVQ4.
Janice commented: “After 12 years of Labour, 40% of our primary school children cannot read, write or add up to the required minimum national standards; this has a detrimental effect when joining their secondary schools where they have little aspiration, add this together and we have a damning indictment of too many children failing to reach their earning or life potential.
“It is important that Kirklees Council is returned to Conservative control so that we can implement a parental choice programme, coupled with a Conservative government’s radical education programme, to correct 12 years of Labour mis-management.” ENDS
