Local man Robert was one of the parents who organised the fight to keep Birkenshaw Middle School.  He is married with two young children.  His main concerns are regeneration, rubbish tipped in surrounding areas, the safety of older people and the general state of neglect in Heckmondwike cemetery.

Lisa Holmes, led the campaign to keep Birkenshaw Middle School.  She is married with two young children.  As a mother of young children and having elderly parents, children's services, education and care of the elderly are her priorities.

Louisa Waple lives in Batley West.  As a young person, her main concerns are young people's concerns and lack of amenities, dog fouling and regeneration.

Mohammed Laher is the candidate for Batley East. Mohammed grew up in Batley, is married with 3 children and works in the engineering Industry. He is well known in the community for his voluntary work and believes local people should have greater say on how local councils should be run. Mohammed who has worked in partnership and continues to work with NHS to raise health issues awareness to the local community. He is also member of Independant Advisory  Police Group. He believes that health, crime and the environment are high on agenda and he will strongly campaign on the issues which concerns Batley East residents.

Paul Taylor, chairman of Batley and Spen Conservatives said:  "I am very pleased with the high calibre of our candidates.  For the first time in years we had competition for our candidates' team.  The selection panel have chosen a very strong team to work alongside our Parliamentary candidate, Janice Small, and we have a clear and positive message about a Conservative government and what a Conservative controlled Kirklees   Council will bring to our borough".ENDS
