Meeting London's and Yorkshire's finest at the Conservative Party Spring Forum 2009

We have all been following the BSF row in the Kirklees area.

The Labour/Liberal Democrats' coup of last year was a disgraceful act of political malevolence against parental choice.  Yes, we're all in politics, and yes I want to be your next MP and fully realise how politics works.  However, when our children's future is used as a political football the Lib/Lab pact have proved they are unfit for office.

I would like to say that I am fully behind the campaign for a school in Birkenshaw and will do everything I can to make it happen both before the General Election and after if I am privileged to become your MP.  This does not exclude a school on the Howden Clough site, just parental choice.

Having spoken to David Cameron and Michael Gove, our shadow secretary of state for schools, it was re-iterated to me this week that priority will be given to the legislation needed to start the process of independent state funded schools and David and Michael are committed to pushing this through Parliament in the first few months of taking office.

The parents of this group have achieved so much in so little time and am heartened that within our community there are still people who will stand up for what they believe in and have the means and commitment to see that it happens.

Three outstanding people should be thanked for their tireless work and campaigning:

Cllr Robert Light

Kirklees councillor candidate Lisa Holmes who is standing as our candidate in Cleckheaton.

Kirkees councillor candidate Robert Thornton who is standing as our candidate in Heckmondwike.

Good luck to Lisa and Robert, who have never been involved in politics before, but because of their drive and determination to provide a good education for our children, I believe they have the qualities, drive, ambition, intelligence, commitment and youth to make Kirklees a better place to live.  Please give them your support through the ballot box.
